Next week Paris warms up for an intensive display of photographic works with Paris Photo and the opening of a new branch of the Magnum Gallery. China's Terracotta Warriors will be on display in Washington, DC and MoMA will hold a special exhibition dedicated to film director Tim Burton.

David Hockney - 1960 - 1968: A Marriage of Styles

Nottingham Contemporary Gallery in Nottingham/UK

To celebrate its opening, the Nottingham Contemporary will stage a major exhibition by American painter David Hockney. Over 60 Hockney works will be featured within two of Nottingham Contemporary's four galleries. The works depict the artist's changing style over an eight-year period and will include his first paintings to explore abstraction in the 1960s and the stunning visions of southern California painted in the years after. The gallery will be free for visitors on November 14 and 15.

Collection: MOCA's First Thirty Years

Lady Gaga performs with the Bolshoi Ballet dancers at the gala event on November 14 to celebrate the anniversary of the Museum of Contemporary Art in downtown Los Angeles and its comprehensive exhibition. More than 500 works by 200 artists, from Claes Oldenburg to Jackson Pollock, and many more, will be displayed in both locations: the main museum covers from 1940-1980 and 1980-present is shown at the Geffen galleries. Every art movement will be featured in the art movement.

The Margulies Collection

The Margulies Collection at the Warehouse opens with a new annual exhibition including new acquisitions and curated shows featuring Miro and Noguchi: Masters of Surrealist Sculpture, George Segal's "Depression Bread Line," and 100 years of Solitude, the Years of Photography, 1909-2009. Segal's sculpture was commissioned by the federal government for President Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial in Washington D.C. depicting his signature figures. One of the top 25 photo collections in the world, according to ARTNews magazine, with images by Dorothea Lange, Helen Levitt, and Cindy Sherman.

Paris Photo

Paris Photo is one of the world's leading photography events. Organizers expect to see over 38,000 visitors through the doors in 2009. Eighty-nine galleries and 13 publishers will present a wide-ranging overview of photographic works spanning from 19th century classics to abstract and artistic compositions captured by contemporary artists. The event will be held in the prestigious Carrousel du Louvre  November 19-22.

China's Terracotta Warriors

Fifteen of the 1,000 or more famous life-size terra cotta warriors, accidentally discovered in 1974 at the tomb of Qin Shi Huang, China's first known emperor. Previously shown at Santa Ana, California, in Atlanta and in Houston, and the British Museum, the travelling exhibit has sold more than 33,000 tickets already for the show. It includes soldiers, archers, acrobats and animals, and sets of artifacts including old armor, weapons and bronze vessels.

Magnum Gallery Opening

The well known photo collective, Magnum, will open a second Paris-based gallery on November 20. The gallery will be located in the prestigious Saint Germain des Prés area in the center of Paris. The new Magnum gallery will be housed in the former exhibition space of French photography connoisseur and publisher, Robert Delpire. Delpire will curate the inaugural exhibition, "demain/hier" ("tomorrow/yesterday"). The photographic exhibition will be on show in the gallery from November 20 to January 2, 2010.

Tim Burton

Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York/US

The Museum of Modern Art in New York will hold a major retrospective of the life and works of American director and artist Tim Burton. The retrospective will include a gallery exhibition and a film exhibition that documents Burton's career and his influential work as a producer, writer, concept artist, photographer and illustrator. For the first time in history, Burton fans will be able to see artwork he made as a student, examples of his nonprofessional films and excerpts from unrealized projects.

Andreas Hofer

A major exhibition of works by German artist Andreas Hofer will be presented at the Sammlung Goetz in Munich, Germany from November 2009 to April 2010. More than 70 individual artworks, including sculptures, installations, drawings, collages and large-scale pieces in mixed media, will be shown in the gallery. The exhibition will be curated by the artist himself and will delve into the subjects of imagination and iconography in contemporary popular culture.

ST-ART European Contemporary Art Fair

The 14th edition of the European Contemporary Art Fair in Strasbourg is focused on making contemporary art available to everyone. Over 100 galleries will exhibit works from all over the globe. The exhibition is presented by the Royal Academy of Arts and will showcase new artworks from over 30 contemporary artists. The featured artworks will comment on the earth's changing climate. The exhibition interconnects issues surrounding the climate change debate with art that reflects the topic and intrinsically embodies the way in which artists have responded to the topic.
