Jumanji: New film will be a 'continuation' rather than a reboot

The film is set to begin shooting in two weeks - starring Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black

There's an understandable amount of hesitation surrounding the upcoming, Dwayne Johnson-starring Jumanji film; not only as a childhood classic to many, but as an integral part of the late Robin Williams' legacy.

However, Johnson himself is keen to quell as many fears as possible; taking once more to Instagram for a soothing, typically optimistic message that should boost faith in even the most doubting of hearts.

Celebrating the completion of photography on Fast and Furious 8 - and seemingly attempting to quieten down rumours of a beef with co-star Vin Diesel by praising the "entire FAST FAMILY" - Johnson also took the opportunity to look forward to his next project, Jumanji.

"And now in two weeks I'll reunite with ol' friends Kevin Hart & Jack Black and we have the honor to introduce a whole new generation to the amazing world of #JUMANJI," Johnson wrote. "For the record we are NOT making a reboot, but rather a continuation of the awesome JUMANJI story."

The idea of a semi-sequel to the original 1995 film fits in line with Johnson's previous Instagram assurance, "You have my word, we will honor his name and the character of 'Alan Parrish' will stand alone and be forever immortalized in the world of Jumanji in an earnest and cool way."

Presumably, then, the film will fit into the same world; merely revealing the fate of the magical board game a couple of decades down the line, having fallen into some newly unwitting hands.

Jumanji will hit UK cinemas 28 July 2017.
