Kingsman: The Golden Circle actor Taron Egerton refused to film 'uncomfortable' sex scene

The actress' husband had to be brought in instead

Kingsman: The Golden Circle director Matthew Vaughn delights in making audiences feel uncomfortable, as evidenced by the original film’s infamous anal sex scene.

There is a yet more controversial sex scene in the sequel, however, which also involves a plot point that steers the rest of the film.

Spoilers ahead: in it, protagonist spy Eggsy has consensual sex with target Clara, but nonconsensually plants a tracking device inside her vagina using his hand.

Speaking to ScreenRant, Eggsy actor said that he didn’t know he would be required for the shot and, when he found out, declined to do it, with actress Poppy Delevingne‘s husband being brought in for filming.

He said:

“It was a day that I was anxious about. The shot in the first film I was so anxious before we did it and Matthew didn’t tell me that I wouldn’t actually be in the shot. The way it was described in the script it was like ‘I’m going to do what?’ But it wasn’t me, it was a POV. In this one, I’m in the shot and I said to Matthew ‘I’m not comfortable doing this’. So it’s not my hand – it’s Poppy’s husband’s hand. He saved the world.”

Despite Egerton’s misgivings about the scene, Vaughn has defended it, telling Uproxx he “wanted to see a spy with an emotional and moral dilemma of having to do something he really doesn’t want to do.”

“I think it’s really important to do scenes that do make people feel uncomfortable.

“Nobody doesn’t notice it – and, afterwards, they’ll talk about it. And that’s what I want to do with films. I want people to discuss it afterwards. I don’t want to make bland movies.”
