Stunning instrumental work: Welcome to Lau-Land

They've picked up three awards for best group at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, and for their third album, Race the Loser, Kris Drever (vocals, guitar), Martin Green (accordion, Wurlitzer, electronics) and Aidan O'Rourke (fiddle) employed US producer Tucker Martine to invest their stunning instrumental work with some deftly understated post-production touches.

For their sit-in at Kings Place, they're joined by Idlewild's Roddy Woomble, with young five-piece Rura (Wed). Lau's album launch gig is on Thursday, while the brilliant Carthy and Swarbrick raise some great old tunes on Friday, and there's a rare live set from Adem.

Next Saturday has workshops and clinics from O'Rourke and Drever; King Creosote and Jon Hopkins perform their Diamond Mine album; and Lau unfurl a live soundtrack to the film-maker Ruth Paxton's Blood Is Thicker. Lau-Land deserves its extended stay.
