A strange but enjoyable five-disc survey of the byways of the career of soul's mighty Love Walrus.
You get a couple of discs of alternate versions, another one dedicated to the Love Unlimited Orchestra, plus production jobs for other people.
The last one's a DVD. All of it serves to remind the listener that, however amusingly concupiscent their content, the records by White and arranger Gene Page in the 1970s were made with both vision and integrity. Good stuff. And it is Valentine's next week...
