Album: Bill Wells & Maher Shalal Hash Baz, Gok, (Geographic)
Strange, beautiful, painfully fragile Falkirk/ Tokyo fusion. Pianist/ composer Wells – who has worked with Isobel Campbell and other Scottish indie artists – went to Japan to record at the home studio, the Gok of the album's title, of weird non-musicians Maher Shalal Hash Baz on a collection of favourite tunes.
The effect (likely to enrage musos and purists) is as if a children's brass orchestra was played bits of Burt Bacharach and was then asked to continue in the same vein.
