Album: Camera Obscura, Desire Lines (4AD)
Scottish indie-pop outfit Camera Obscura return after a hiatus of four years, but Desire Lines follows familiar territory.
Singer Tracyanne Campbell's voice is still sweet, albeit with a weary, slightly wary tone; there are the usual chiming guitars and head-nodding melodies. Yet Desire Lines lacks the hooks of their best work, with no obvious hits: many numbers are less indie-disco floor-filler and more slightly plodding album-filler.
