Here's a turn-up for the books: on album number nine, career pessimist Mark "E" Everett has let the sunshine in, following up January's divorce-wracked End Times with a collection rejoicing in magnificent days and spectacular girls.
You're happy that he's happy, but this isn't a patch on his best work, full of patly optimistic lyrics – see the primary school philosophising of "Mystery of Life" – and twinkly, lullaby-esque ditties that feel both overly precious and half-sketched.
