Album: Kyla la Grange, Ashes (Ioki/Sony)
If La Grange has been whispered about as a "new Stevie Nicks", it's only half-true.
At her best, like opener "Walk Through Walls" with its fist-in-the-air choruses, the Watford singer recalls 1980S Nicks as well as countless other shoulder-padded MTV rock vixens. The drums and vocals experimentalism of "You Let it Go", meanwhile, has you thinking of Kate Bush. All too frequently, though, La Grange's debut degenerates into drippy hippy-witch wetness.
