James Chapman's 2007 debut album, the Mercury-nominated We Can Create, was a superior piece of nouveau-shoey, its analogue warmth making it sound like Spiritualized without the smack.
Second time around, he's upped his game. Maps' second album is less diffident, with Chapman stepping out of the aural shadows with clearer lead vocals, double-tracked for emphasis. Turning the Mind is also more open and welcoming though it is still a complex and intriguing record you'll want to keep coming back to.
