Album: Nick Waterhouse, Time's All Gone (Innovative Leisure)

The latest retro sensation, Waterhouse is a 25-year-old from San Francisco (where tatted-up youth have been dancing to swing for years) who's trying to sound like Ike Turner circa 1958.

And he's pretty good at it, mixing swampy beats with primitive blues and 1960s pop grooves. The opener, "Say I Wanna Know", is so infectious that even countless repetitions can't ruin it. How he develops (or better still, doesn't) will be the thing.
