Album: Phronesis, Alive (Edition)

Danish bassist Jasper Hoiby, whose gorgeous cheekbones decorate the cover, plays in a number of London bands but this trio with pianist Ivo Neame and US drummer Mark Guiliana (here depping for Anton Eger) is the one for which he writes, too.

Recorded at the Forge in Camden, this is an exemplary live recording in that it appears to offer a true document of the performance. Not everything works and there's some annoying noodling, but from the great last number of the first set, things take off.
