Album review: Ducktails, The Flower Lane (Domino)

There's half a great album in here. Ducktails are a vehicle for Real Estate's Matt Mondanile, and fourth album The Flower Lane finds him undecided about which way to fly.

There's a modicum of standard Teenage-Fanclub-meets-Mekons indie jangle. Far more interesting, however, are the dreamy, dazed disco tunes, reminiscent of the Avalanches and Prefab Sprout circa Steve McQueen. Ducktails are, it seems, two bands. I know which one I'll be listening out for.
