Album: Rodrigo y Gabriela, Area 52 (Rubyworks/Pias)

The Mexican duo tool themselves up with a 13-piece orchestra called C.U.B.A from, of all places, Havana – and producer Peter Asher, of all people. "Area 52" is the area presumed "next door" to Area 51.

Just go with it, OK. The result is a seething, soundtracky, high-gloss, high-energy orchestral Latin "fusion", full of licks and stabs and twiddly bits that will sound good on the Lexus soundsystem. Like listening to the soundtrack of a James Bond movie set in Cuba.
