Album: Sam Amidon, I See the Sign (Bedroom Community)
You'll either get what Amidon does or you won't.
If you do, you will hear a modern musical mind bending folk tradition at his will as he teases and tempts age-old ballads and hymns into the 21st century. If you don't, you will hear a lot of repeated lyrics and some strange noises in the background while Beth Orton (remember her?) sings along whenever she feels like it. It's somnambulistic stuff, with Amidon – his voice as gentle as a sigh – relishing his role as both saviour and slayer of songbooks past.
