Album: Shakespears Sister, Songs from the Red Room (SF records)

The return of Shakespears Sister isn't quite what it seems. Marcella Detroit, the operatic songbird of "Stay", isn't involved, leaving just the "foghorn" half of Newman & Baddiel's cruel-but-hilarious parody.

In fact, Siobhan Fahey has merely re-adopted the SS name for what one can only assume are commercial reasons. If it works, good luck to her, because her spiky electro-rock has its moments, notably "Was It Worth It", which reunites Fahey with Terry Hall for the first time since those Fun Boy Three and Bananarama days.
