Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews has been slipping the slide in New Orleans since his trombone was taller than he. Hence the name. Now 25, he hasevolved a slamming, populist style ofensemble funk which owes plenty tolocal tradition as well as to rock andhip-hop. Loud guitars are everywhere, bucked by riffing horns, and the generalvibe is testosteronal and sleeveless. He is a rippingly good player. Guestappearances are made by Kid Rock,Lenny Kravitz and Jeff Beck.
