A couple of dozen TV performances spliced together to tell the story of Mayfield's eminence as the soulful, righteous and modestly questioning falsetto voice of the civil rights struggle in the US.
Shame such a story has to be told so dully, in over-rehearsed interviews with the respectable folks who knew him best. (Thank heavens for the relative distance of Andrew Young and Chuck D.)
The music is, of course, wonderful, although even "People Get Ready" struggles to survive the Dick Clark treatment, on a boating lake.
