BBC gardening show confuses cabbage for cannabis

Normally they tell listeners why their cyclamens are sick or dahlias are dying. This time the advice was different. It was how to grow your own dope.

The presenters of BBC Radio Scotland's Sunday afternoon gardening programme, The Beechgrove Potting Shed, gave out their unusual advice to a caller asking about a plant variety called Northern Lights.

Frieda Morrison and Jim McColl took him to mean a variety of cabbage and spent three minutes explaining which regime to use for the plant. But the caller wasn't interested in cabbage. He was referring to his crop of a very strong marijuana. "We are a very happening programme and want to be at the cutting edge of any grass," said Ms Morrison. "We thought the caller had said cabbages so this is where the confusion started... It is a very busy programme and we made a honest mistake."
