The Back to Basics provenance is familiar to serious clubbers. Their hallmark of high-quality, hard-edged house and hedonism has made The Pleasure Rooms a descriptive title for their Leeds base.

This week, they open a new venue in Coventry. The Foundry is an Art Deco cinema recreated as the perfect clubbing space, and will retain many of its original features. Initially it will only open for Basic's presentation, Cut the Crap, on Saturday nights, kicking off in style, with Kevin Saunderson, Ralph Lawson and a surprise guest PA tomorrow night.

Cut the Crap is set to be the cream of the crop. Basics will import international stars to feature alongside home-grown talent, and make them play full- length, full-on sets - they think their dubbers deserve it. The September line-up also includes Roger Sanchez, Kid Bachelor, Luke Solomon, Claudio Coccoluto and Harvey.

The future of Friday nights is still a mystery, but Thursdays are reserved for, Housework, created with the students in mind. From 3 Oct, DJs such as Judge Jules and John Kelly will dish out happy house, drinks will flow cheaply and the entry charge won't make a hole in grant-sized pockets.

The Foundry is emphatically not a "superclub". Unlike recent disco multiplexes, it has one dance floor, one chill-out bar and a discreetly downsized capacity of 800. By using a smaller venue, Back to Basics are living up to their name and distilling clubbing down to its true essence. They have located their satellite in Coventry because of its centrality, and because it needs a damned good house club.

The Foundry, Far Gosford St, Coventry (01203 559009). Doors open 9pm- 2am, pounds 10 mems/ pounds 8 membership is free
