I like personal travel blogs that give a subjective view - you can soon find like-minded authors who will offer suggestions and tips that are appropriate - journies to take, hotels to stay in, best car hire companies, good value restaurants and "undiscovered" attractions that the larger commercial travel websites are more likely to be influenced by sponsorship and advertising.

Destination Travel Sites - Algarve

I notice that you made mention in your picks (I believe # 44) that ...Westsweden.com

"With so many to choose from, I have purposely stayed away from specific destination websites in this list, but this one deserves a mention in my book because it beats the competition hands down. If only all tourist board websites were as easy to navigate, information packed, stylishly laid out, quick to load and regularly updated."

Are you going to be reviewing specific destination websites at any time ??
There is one for the Algarve called HIP ALGARVE CHANNEL http://www.hipalgarve.net
The site is not a tourist board site BUT it is easy to navigate, stylish, has alot of info already and is building MORE content all the time. It's all video which is cool too !

Villarenters.com is not bad considering that new advances paid for by the Daily Mail have made the site faster and better known. In Portugal, there is an excellent site http://www.PortugalVillaRenters.com which does not charge commission, instead charges a small advertising fee. There are so many to choose from, but you're probably best sticking to a professional and reputable company. Portugal Villa Renters has over 400 properties and claims to be the most visited web site for Portugal.

Nobody has mentioned the many independent or one off sites which are mines of information about specific areas.

We holidayed in Italy this year and the place we stayed had an excellent site with bundles of hand picked information on how to get the best from your holiday in the Le Marche region, from festas and events to walking and hiking itineraries, kids activities, sightseeing and beaches to outlet shopping or their approach to ecotourism. If you want to explore top city sites or off the beaten track places and hate group tours why not download an audio tour onto your ipod or access it by your mobile phone.

Many are available world wide and a lot of them are free. The most comprehensive audio trail portal www.audioguide2go.com makes it easy to search for tours by different producers by map or keyword and you can leave a review. You can even upload your own tour.

Ther are many city tours, country trails etc from straight narration,to arty, to dramatic or documentary style. Some are just weird and wonderful.
