Jimmy Kimmel comments on Donald Trump's visit to the Pope

Donald Trump's trip to meet with Pope Francis at the Vatican on Wednesday (24 May) found itself at the centre of a monologue by late-night host Jimmy Kimmel.

Kimmel didn't waste any time in addressing the event, immediately starting his show by saying: “Today was an historic day, a holy day, maybe even an A-holey day, as his Holiness met his Bigliness at the Vatican today.”

The host poked fun at recent footage that seemed to show First Lady Melania pushing Trump's hand away when he tried to hold hers by showing a tongue-in-cheek clip of the same thing happening between the President and the Pope.

“He doesn't have much of a pope-r face,” the host continued, backing up his point by showing the now-famous image of a seemingly unhappy Pope Francis next to a smiling Trump alongside previous images of a very happy-looking Pope alongside other world leaders including Angela Merkel, Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin.

You can watch Kimmel's full monologue below.

The host went on to comment that Trump thought the Vatican looked like “one of the bathrooms at his house.”

It was recently announced that Kimmel will return to host next year's Academy Awards following this year's Best Picture snafu.
