Victoria's Secret in social media backlash for 'ripping off' cult swimwear brand Triangl

The lingerie giant has been the subject of a storm on social media for the apparently similar designs.

Victoria's Secret has been caught up in social media backlash after some users noticed similarities between its swimwear designs and that of another label - Triangl.

Customers have been taking to Twitter over the past few months to point out the likeness between the two labels.

It's distinctive designs are characterised by their bold sporty aesthetic, made from neoprene with contrast stitch detailing.

Victoria's Secret is the US lingerie giant famous for its yearly catwalk extravaganzas. Swimwear is an increasingly important focus for the brand who this year aired its very first swimwear dedicated show.

While Victoria's Secret's sporty swimwear designs retail around the £40 mark, Triangl's are slightly more expensive coming it at around $99 (£60).

The issue of copying is a contentious one in the fashion world with many ongoing debates around the issue. Last week Isabel Marant came under fire for supposedly copying a traditional Mexican design and retailer NastyGal caused a furore when it wrongly took credit for a Balmain lookalike jumpsuit worn by Taylor Swift earlier this year.

The Independent is awaiting comment from Victoria's Secret.
