An American woman living in the UK has outraged social media users by sharing a bizarre recipe for "British eggs" in a viral TikTok video.
Michelle, who goes by the handle @jchelle36 on social media, shared what appears to be a tutorial for scrambled eggs, but not as us Brits know them.
Posting with the caption “Today this American girl will be making British eggs”, the video shows Michelle mixing eggs, salt, pepper and sugar and a copious amount of whipped cream before whisking them and putting them in the microwave for two minutes.
In the video, the UK-based nurse says: "So first you want to get your eggs out of the fridge, then you want to crack them, put them in a bowl, add a little salt, add a little pepper, add a little sugar, add a little whipped cream.
Whisk it together, put them in the microwave, set it for two minutes. And that's how you cook British eggs!"
After posting the video, plenty of people from the UK took to Twitter to share their disgust for the strange recipe.
One Tiktok user commented: “now that’s how you cook diabetes,” while another Twitter user wrote: “Where on earth (not Britain that for sure) did you hear that’s how me make eggs?! That looks rank! Sugar? Squirty cream? And where’s the rest of the breakfast? Massive fail. I suppose it’ll go nicely with your tea. [sic]”
In a more sarcastic response, another Twitter user said: “Fair play, she’s found a way of trolling an entire country. Obviously this is a war crime, I think she might know that though…”
Social media users have also criticised Michelle for keeping her eggs in the fridge, noting the difference between American and British food standards.
One Twitter user said: “Interesting point that the eggs are chemically treated and have to be kept refrigerated in the US, because of their factory farming methods which leave eggs subject to salmonella. They would be illegal in the UK.”
This isn’t the first time that the mother-of-three, who goes by “Traveling Family of Five” on YouTube, has caused controversy on social media. Last month, she went viral for another trolling video, this time causing uproar with a “hot tea”, or British tea.
The TikTok user enlisted her daughter’s help for the tutorial, and made tea by microwaving a mug of cold water, then pouring in an obscene amount of milk, before finally adding the tea bag and heaps of sugar.
The video offended fans of the classic British brew and was shared thousands of times on social media. One user even called it “the worst cup of tea ever made.”
The recipe even inspired spin-off parody videos, where Brits followed the strange tea recipe and threw away their creation at the end in disgust.
Amassing nearly 350,000 views for her eggs recipe video in just two days, we’re keen to see which British staple the American attempts next.
