Donald Trump and Carl Pistorius have exchanged heated comments on Twitter over the sentencing of Oscar Pistorius, who fatally shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

The Paralympian was sentenced to five years in prison, but legal experts suggest that he will only serve 10 months and the remainder under house arrest.

He has also been sentenced to an additional three years in prison, wholly suspended, on the second count of a firearm contravention.

The trial has taken place over seven months. In September, Pistorius was cleared of murder, but found guilty of culpable homicide.

Judge Masipa’s ruling was met with angry reactions on social media, with hashtags #NoJustice and #ThingsLongerThanPistoriusSentencing launched in protest.

Trump added his voice to the case, describing Masipa’s decision as “ridiculous”, before sharing another tweet calling the judge a “moron”.

The Paralympian’s brother, Carl, was quick to defend his sibling:

Yesterday, Carl told ITV News that regardless of today’s outcome, he, his sister Aimee and Oscar would “stand together and continue to stand together”.

“I can't relate to the Oscar that's been portrayed by the prosecution,” he said.

“Oscar growing up, up until now, is the same person. He's bold, he's brave, he's got courage, he's got charisma, he's exciting and fun, thoughtful and intelligent and has been the perfect fit as a middle child between us three siblings.”
