Rapper LL Cool J broke the nose and jaw of an intruder at his LA mansion according to reports.
He delivered what police sources described as a “knock-down, drag-out” punch in a scuffle with the suspected burglar in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Los Angeles police arrived at the star’s home around 1am and arrested the suspect, whom LL Cool J was holding down.
Police described the suspect as a transient who was not immediately identifiable according to the LA Times.
LL Cool J, 44, was upstairs in bed when he heard a noise in the kitchen and went to investigate.
His daughter called 911.
The rapper, born James Todd Smith, rose to fame with hits including “Mama Said Knock You Out” and “I’m Bad”.
He has also appeared in films and television shows, including playing a special agent in NCIS: Los Angeles.
"A physical altercation occurred between the suspect and the victim, James Todd Smith, also known professionally as LL Cool J," Los Angeles police Sgt. Frank Preciado told The Huffington Post.
"My understanding is he just had him in custody with his physical strength."
A statement released by his publicist, Rhett Usry, said: "LL Cool J, and his family, are safe and thank everyone for their thoughts and concern."
"As a father, husband and citizen, he is committed to keeping his family safe and is cooperating with authorities on this private matter."
