Pharrell and the hat have been inseparable up to this point

Pharrell Williams has put that Vivienne Westwood 'mountain' fedora hat he wore to every public function and possibly to bed for weeks on eBay, with bidding currently at $10,500 (£6,000).

First debuted at the Grammys, the vertiginous hat has managed to overshadow anything and everything else Pharrell has been doing, apart from denying he is a vampire of course.

Proceeds from the auction will go to educational non-profit organisation From One Hand To Another, with the hat going on sale on 20 Febraury and due to end on 2 March.

Update: Pharrell appears to have the hat in other colours. The hat lives!

Confirming the headgear is indeed his and not that of a passing Mountie, Pharrell said in a statement: "I’m giving up the Buffalo hat I wore to the GRAMMYs to help underserved kids get the educational tools they need.

"Our organization, From One Hand to Another, is committed to bringing kids experiences that ignite their passions, challenge their minds and prepare them for success."

No questions from sellers have as yet been posted beneath the item, including mine: 'Does this hat possess magical powers?"

Meanwhile, Pharrell announced a new album this week called G I R L, which will feature Daft Punk, Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys.
