Peaches Geldof: Post-mortem results ruled inconclusive, pending toxicology report, as officers continue to investigate her death

Peaches Geldof’s post-mortem has been ruled as inconclusive, it has been confirmed.

The results of further toxicology tests to determine how the socialite died are set to be revealed in due course, police have said.

However, the report could take several weeks to be finalised.

Officers will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death in order to compile the coroner’s report.

They are, however, treating her passing as "sudden" and "unexplained".

A council spokesperson told The Independent that her body, which was discovered at her home in Kent at 1.35pm on Monday, had been transferred to Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford yesterday, and that the examination into cause of death was carried out by Dr Peter Jerreat, a consultant pathologist from the Home Office.

"Arrangements are in hand for the post-mortem to be carried out tomorrow at the hospital," a statement on Tuesday read. "After the results of the post mortem have been received, the Coroner will officially open an investigation and decide whether an inquest is necessary."

The friends and peers of Peaches Geldof took to social media in their droves yesterday to express their sadness at the tragic loss of the socialite and writer.

Among the first to pay tribute was pop star Lily Allen, a long-time friend of the devoted mother of two sons - Astala, 23 months, and Phaedra, 11 months - with husband Thomas Cohen.

"My thoughts are with the Geldof's at this awful time," she wrote. "I hope they get to grieve in peace. Peaches, rest in peace gorgeous girl."

Ellie Goulding echoed the sentiments of many hearing the news for the first time when she wrote: “I don't believe it,' before adding: 'Even if you think you've got it all figured out, some things still can't be explained or understood. Two beautiful children. RIP Peaches.”

Fearne Cotton wrote: "I'm beyond shocked and saddened to hear about Peaches. Can't quite digest it. Thoughts and so much love to the family."

Their statements followed an official tribute from Peaches’ father, Sir Bob Geldof.

"Peaches has died. We are beyond pain," he wrote. "She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us.

"Writing 'was' destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever. How sad that sentence is.

"Tom and her sons Astala and Phaedra will always belong in our family, fractured so often, but never broken."

"My beloved wife Peaches was adored by myself and her two sons," said husband Thomas Cohen in a statement.

"I shall bring them up with their mother in their hearts everyday. We shall love her forever."

Her final magazine column, in which she described her “perfect life” as a mother away from the socialite scene, was published yesterday.
