British police have identified three Chelsea fans wanted in connection with a 'racist incident' on the Paris Metro on 17 February, Scotland Yard says.

Images were released on Friday of three men captured on CCTV at the Richelieu-Drouout Metro station in central Paris.

Metropolitan Police say they have spoken to the men in connection with the incident and will continue to liaise with French authorities.

During the incident, ahead of the club’s 1-1 draw with Paris St-Germain, some British fans repeatedly pushed away a black French man who was trying to board the train, shouting: “We’re racist and that’s the way we like it.”

The footage was captured by a British expatriate on his mobile phone and sent to the Guardian.

None of the men sought by British police has been arrested as they cannot be arrested for offences which occurred outside the UK.

However, they could be brought to trial in France where they could face up to three years in prison and a €45,000 fine if found guilty.

Chelsea FC has already banned five fans from attending Stamford Bridge as a result of the incident.

Jose Mourinho has said the club was “appalled” and would write to the victim, identified only as Souleymane S, to invite him to the attend the return game on 11 March.

Souleymane declined Mr Mourinho's offer, telling French newspaper Le Parisien: “I appreciate Mr Mourinho’s invitation, but I can’t get me head around being in a stadium at the moment.”
