Jeremy Corbyn will not attend Fidel Castro’s funeral, a spokesperson for the Labour leader has said.

The Labour leader has received an invitation to the event, which will take place on December 4, after several days of commemorations.

The spokesperson said Mr Corbyn never intended to attend the funeral. Labour’s Shadow Foreign Secretary, Emily Thornberry, will attend in his place. The spokesperson said such arrangements were "not unusual".

Ms Thornberry also attended the funeral of former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres in September
