With choreographed first dances, life-like cake figurines and outlandish venues seemingly now the norm for weddings, it is increasingly difficult for couples to find a way to make their big day unique.

This perhaps explains why a US couple decided to have their newborn daughter attached to the bride's train, while they walked down the aisle on their wedding day in Elam Baptist Church in Ripley.

Photos of the incident last month appear to show groom Johnathan Brooks arm in arm with Shona Carter-Brooks, while their reportedly one-month-old daughter Aubrey lies amid the taffeta of the train.

The couple have faced an online backlash over the decision, with on commenter on the website Clutch writing: "I am sorry but if I would have saw that I would have gotten out of my seat and taken that baby. That is truly dumb."

Responding to criticism, the bride from the US state of Tennessee wrote on Facebook: "The answer is we do what we want, when we want, as long as Jesus on our side everything worked out fine and gona (sic) continue to be fine."

A separate post signed "Mr & Mrs Brooks!!'" read : "Our 1 month old was awake and well secured on my train.

"Most important while yall got ya feelings in us we had our hearts in Christ which covers all!!"

A Facebook friend who claimed to have attended the ceremony supported the couple on the social media website, the Daily Mail reported.

"Shona and Johnathan Brooks your wedding was super perfect from the groom and his men and you and your diva's baby you rock the gown and the princess tagging behind you it brought tears to my eyes," wrote Pamela Stone.

"Regardless of anybody else dream your's came true. I loved it and thank you for inviting me." she added.
