Republican senator Dan Patrick accidentally posts pro-same-sex marriage tweet

Senator Patrick intended to post a message on Twitter condemning a federal ruling that Texas' same-sex marriage ban is unconstitutional

A senator in the US state of Texas opposed to same-sex marriage accidentally posted a tweet endorsing it, on Wednesday.

After a judge ruled that a ban on same-sex marriage in Texas is unconstitutional, Republican senator Dan Patrick took to Twitter to send a message to his 11,000 followers reading: “MARRIAGE = ONE MAND & ONE MAN. Enough of these activist judges. FAVORITE if you agree, I know the silent majority out there is with us!”

Twitter users snapped screen shots of the post, while others re-tweeted it before it was deleted by the 63-year-old senator. 

The ruling follows similar decisions recently made in Utah, Oklahoma and Virginia.

However, the state will continue to enforce the ban pending an appeal from the state of Texas that will likely go to the US Supreme Court, where a number of lawsuits from different states are expected to be heard next year.

Meanwhile in Arizona, a controversial bill was allowing business owners to deny service to gay and lesbian customers on grounds of religious beliefs was vetoed.
