Trevor Noah mocks Kamala Harris' endorsement of Joe Biden

California Senator Kamala Harris’ endorsement of former vice president Joe Biden as Democratic Party nominee for the 2020 election has been mocked as looking like a hostage video.

On Monday’s edition of The Daily Show, host Trevor Noah said that video, filmed on a cellphone in front of a brick wall, “looked weird” before likening it to a ransom note.

After playing the video, he joked: “Now, please send $10,000 in unmarked bills so that my family can see me again.”

He added: “I bet even the Taliban is looking at this video, like: ‘We had better lighting and we were in a cave!”

Ms Harris’ endorsement came just ahead of Tuesday’s primaries in which six states — Idaho, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota and Washington — will choose between Mr Biden and Bernie Sanders.

The Washington Post reports that Ms Harris had a particular reason for waiting until now to endorse Mr Biden: “I had two women colleagues in the race, and I did not feel right putting my thumb on the scale [that] in any way would harm their candidacy.”

She added: “So, when Elizabeth announced that she was getting out of the race, I let Joe know that I would endorse him.”

While Mr Biden and Ms Harris sparred during the primary debates, particularly over the issue of school busing, the California Senator is seen by pundits as a possible running mate for the former vice president.

Speaking on MSNBC on Monday night, Mr Biden said: “My administration, from vice president on, is gonna look like the country.”
