Arsene Wenger will return to his former stamping ground tonight as his Arsenal side look to upset the odds and overturn a 3-1 deficit to Monaco in the Champions League last-16.

Wenger dominated the build-up to the first leg at the Emirates given that it was the first time he had faced the club that he managed between 1987 and 1994 in a competitive fixture.

However, the romance of the reunion was quickly soured by the three goals the Gunners conceded in an all-too-familiar European collapse, and the defeat now leaves them with a mountain to climb to reach the quarter-finals.

The build-up to the second leg has focused more around how Arsenal can go about scoring the three goals they need to progress in the tournament against a side who conceded just once in their six group games, despite the encounter seeing Wenger return to the club where he made a name for himself.

The 64-year-old Frenchman enjoyed success at Monaco, winning the Ligue 1 title in 1987-88 and following it up with the Coupe de France success in 1990-91, and the club are preparing a warm reception for Wenger when he walks out at the Stade Louis II.
