Man City vs Liverpool LIVE: Premier League result and reaction as Trent Alexander-Arnold nets late equaliser
Man City 1-1 Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp’s men remain one point behind the champions after salvaging a draw at the Etihad Stadium
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s low finish ten minutes from time earned Liverpool a point against Manchester City as the Premier League‘s top two played out a 1-1 draw.
A relatively even contest never quite burst into life at the Etihad Stadium as two familiar foes kept each other largey in check.
Erling Haaland had put Manchester City into a first half lead, latching on to a through ball from Nathan Ake after an errant clearance from Alisson before firing into the bottom corner past the Brazilian goalkeeper.
It was the Norwegian’s 50th Premier League goal, the striker achieving the mark in his 48th game to comfortably break Andy Cole’s record.
And Haaland very nearly added a second a matter of moments before Alexander-Arnold equalised up the other end, Alisson’s block crucial and sparking the counter attack from which the right back neatly tucked home.
The draw ends a 23-match winning run at home for Manchester City, who could be overhauled at the top of the table if Arsenal beat Brentford later on Saturday.

Manchester City 1-0 Liverpool, 75 minutes
Darwin Nunez tracks the play all the way back into a left-back area, and rather shows a striker’s tackling skill - he’s the first man into the book for a barge in the back of Phil Foden.
Manchester City 1-0 Liverpool, 73 minutes
And here is the Netherlands international; Dominik Szoboszlai is replaced.
Manchester City 1-0 Liverpool, 72 minutes
Ederson claims the corner rather too easily. Cody Gakpo is limbering up on the touchline.
Manchester City 1-0 Liverpool, 71 minutes
Sharp! Good play from Liverpool up the right as we enter the final 20 minutes, Mohamed Salah’s angled pass rolling invitingly into Darwin Nunez’s pass for a snapshot. Ederson saves at his near post - corner kick.
Manchester City 1-0 Liverpool, 70 minutes
A clipped free kick from Bernardo Silva curves beautifully onto Rodri’s head, but the Spaniard had gone too soon, and his header isn’t particularly pretty anyway.
NO GOAL! Manchester City 1-0 Liverpool, 69 minutes
Chris Kavanagh’s decision of no goal is upheld! The ball was swung in from the left and Alisson rather made a hash of his attempted collection under pressure from Manuel Akanji. There is a hand on the shoulder from the leaping Manchester City man, which both the referee and video assistant Stuart Attwell deem worthy of a foul - Ruben Dias is denied.
GOAL? VAR will take a look...
Ruben Dias stabs in from a metre but has Manuel Akanji fouled Alisson?
Manchester City 1-0 Liverpool, 67 minutes
Manchester City have just ratcheted up the intensity. Jeremy Doku is being given more and more time and space up the left, and Liverpool are forced to slice a clearance behind for a corner.
Manchester City 1-0 Liverpool, 65 minutes
Rodri releases a shot from 25 yards and has that struck a Liverpool hand? Nope! A good decision from Chris Kavanagh, correctly ruling that it came off the derriere of a turning Ryan Gravenberch.
Manchester City’s corner, but it is too deep for Ruben Dias to make anything of a far post header.
Manchester City 1-0 Liverpool, 63 minutes
There still hasn’t been a card, by the way, in a largely incident free game. Chris Kavanagh’s only real involvement so far has been to heed the offside calls of his assistants - the latest over-eager runner is Phil Foden up the right.
