Players from the Premier League have been overlooked in the FIFPro World XI team of the year announced at the Fifa Ballon d'Or award ceremony.

The side has a predictable look to it, with the players being drawn from just four sides - Real Madrid (2), Barcelona (4), Bayern Munich (3) and Paris St Germain (2).

Among those in the team are the three short-listed for the Fifa Ballon d'Or award in Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Franck Ribery.

While the offensive elements of the team may be hard to argue with, some Premier League defenders, particularly Vincent Kompany, may feel aggrieved not to have got a look in considering the selection of Sergio Ramos and Thiago Silva.
