Memphis Depay blasted for dressing like a 'Peruvian pan flute player' and must 'correct' behaviour at Manchester United

Manchester United forward Memphis Depay has been told he must "correct" his behaviour after being blasted for "playing dress up".

Former Ajax coach Co Adriaanse has been unimpressed with the behaviour of the young Netherlands international, who moved to Manchester United from PSV Eindohoven in a £25m deal over the summer.

Depay, who has been pictured wearing some outlandish clothes in recent months, has failed to make much of an impact since being at Old Trafford. He's scored just one Premier League goal in eight appearances and was an unused substitute in the 3-0 win over Everton at the weekend.

"He needs to be corrected," 68-year-old Adriaanse told Studio Voetbal.

"He must realise that he is a member in a football team, that he is not just an individual, a 100 metre sprinter like Usain Bolt.

"He arrived as a Peruvian pan flute player at [Netherlands team hotel] Huis ter Duin. If you are a young boy and still have not done anything, do not play dress up as you report to the coach. [Cristiano] Ronaldo does that, but at least he is proven.

"He does not even talk to the press, which he ignores. That cannot be the way. He represents us, the Dutch people. And we want to know what he thinks. He should always speak to them, and must be corrected."

The comments from Adriaanse, who has also managed Porto and Twente in a long career, follow those made by Youri Mulder.

"In the Premier League he [Depay] suffers, yet his attitude suggests that he is a big star," said the former Netherlands international.

"It seems that people at Manchester United are starting to get fed up with this."

Manchester United play away against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday.
