Newcastle will be looking to ensure their West Ham defeat was nothing more than a blip after the Hammers ended their streak of six consecutive wins.

The Magpies have been in better form than Jose Mourinho’s indomitable Chelsea side, and will prove a tough challenge for the Premier League newcomers.

After a poor start to the season, 19th placed Burnley have started to turn the ship and after picking up two wins and a draw in their previous three matches, Sean Dyche will finally have reason for optimism for the season ahead.

KICK-OFF: Tuesday, 7.45pm.

PAST THREE MEETINGS…

Burnley 1 Newcastle 0, Division Two, March 1983

Newcastle 3 Burnley 0, Division Two, November 1982

Newcastle 1 Burnley 1, Division Two, April 1980

STATS…

Burnley have won all three of their previous home encounters against Newcastle – a run stretching back to 1975.

Newcastle have never faced Burnley in the Premier League.

Burnley have a slight edge over their Tyneside opponents – winning 41 times to Newcastle’s 40 in league fixtures between the two.

The Magpies could realistically rise to fifth place with a win against Burnley, provided other results went in their favour.

Burnley are currently in the same vein of form as teams such as QPR, Liverpool and Stoke – and another win would put them on par with Arsenal in the form books.

ODDS…

Burnley to win: 2.87

Newcastle to win: 2.62

Draw - 3.3

TV: Highlights on BBC One, Wednesday 3 Dec at 10:35pm.
