The Magpies have been in better form than Jose Mourinho’s indomitable Chelsea side, and will prove a tough challenge for the Premier League newcomers.

After a poor start to the season, 19th placed Burnley have started to turn the ship and after picking up two wins and a draw in their previous three matches, Sean Dyche will finally have reason for optimism for the season ahead.

Burnley have won all three of their previous home encounters against Newcastle – a run stretching back to 1975.

Newcastle have never faced Burnley in the Premier League.

Burnley have a slight edge over their Tyneside opponents – winning 41 times to Newcastle’s 40 in league fixtures between the two.

The Magpies could realistically rise to fifth place with a win against Burnley, provided other results went in their favour.
