Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are among those chasing deals with just days left of the summer transfer window
Cristiano Ronaldo’s search for a new club is intensifying as the Portuguese forward seeks an exit from Manchester United. Reports suggest his agent Jorge Mendes is working around the clock to find a suitor, with Sporting CP extremely interested and preparing to announce according to caughtoffside, while Sky Sports says Napoli are in the running and looking to make space in their budget for the superstar striker.
West Ham United are preparing a new bid for 24-year-old Brazil midfielder Lucas Paqueta after Lyon rejected an offer worth around £50m. Chelsea are weighing up their next – and possibly final – bid for Leicester’s wantaway defender Wesley Fofana, while Manchester United are doing likewise as they consider upping their offer for Ajax winger Antony. Football Insider claims United are also ready to offer for PSV’s Cody Gakpo despite the Athletic’s claim that interest in the winger had cooled.
Arsenal have been linked with Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans and Wolves forward Pedro Neto, with Nicolas Pepe set to depart on loan to Nice. Umtiti leaves Barcelona on loan
Barcelona have freed up more wages by loaning unwanted defender Samuel Umtiti to Serie A side Lecce.
Barca will likely still need to offload more wages to register summer signing Jules Kounde with exits for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Memphis Depay seemingly on the cards as well.
No offer for Gordon
Chelsea are believed to still be in advanced talks with Everton for the signing of Anthony Gordon but no further offers have come in for the forward according to Frank Lampard.
Speaking at his press conference ahead of Saturday’s trip to Brentford, the Toffees boss rubbished the recent rumours.
“No bid has come in. He’s our player, and he’s in the squad for tomorrow,” Lampard announced. “He’s a huge player for us. He’s of big value to the club, but he’s of big value to the squad too.
“[Chelsea] haven’t bid £60m so let’s not talk about a number.”
Maupay undergoing Everton medical
Neal Maupay is closing in on a move to Everton and is set to undergo a medical at the Merseyside club later today.
Howe wants Isak to be ready for Wolves
Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe says he hopes prospective signing Alexander Isak can be registered on time and feature against Wolves on Sunday.
Isak completed a medical at Newcastle yesterday ahead of his £58m move from Real Sociedad - a new club record fee for the Magpies.
“It’s not completed,” said Newcastle boss Howe. “We hope to get it done. Fingers crossed [he can play Sunday]. There’s no guarantee with these things, as it’s in other people’s hands. But hopefully.
“He will probably need to train with us in the next two days to be available to play....we’re very keen to see him get involved as quickly as possible.”
Chelsea chase Russian star
Chelsea have made a £12.7m bid for Dynamo Moscow starlet Arsen Zakharyan.
The 19-year-old midfielder is considered one of Russia’s brightest talents and already has four caps for his country with Zakharyan’s agent Pavel Andreev confirming the deal after telling RB Sport:
“It’s true. The agreement is close.”
Asensio to leave Madrid?
Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio, according to a report in the Telegraph.
It is believed the European giants would be willing to cash-in on the 26-year-old for €30million, although United have a list of other forwards they are prioritising such as the £80m move for Ajax forward Antony.
Arsenal switch to Zaha
Arsenal’s pursuit of a wide forward has seen them rekindle their interest in Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha after it became clear that they will not be able to prise Pedro Neto away from Wolves.
The Gunners have been long-term admirers of Zaha having first contacted Crystal Palace about a transfer when Unai Emery was in charge.
“[Pedro Neto and Yeremi Pino] are not the only two names Arsenal are looking at,” Dean Jones told The Done Deal Show.
“In the background, there is Wilfried Zaha. That deal is not moving forward at the moment, but Zaha is definitely one of those players that ticks the boxes and that Arsenal have an eye on.
“We will have to wait and see if they go down that path, Zaha is obviously in red-hot form at the moment.”

Ziyech wants Spurs move
Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech looks set to leave the club this summer but his destination is unknown as of yet. He has been linked with a potential move to Old Trafford although that seems a long way off as well as a return to old club Ajax.
The Daily Express say that Ziyech would however prefer a move to Tottenham with the Moroccan ‘desperate’ to leave Stamford Bridge in search of more game time.
Everton’s Anthony Gordon could be worth £100m, says Frank Lampard amid Chelsea interest
Frank Lampard believes Anthony Gordon has the potential to become a £100m player as he said Chelsea have not submitted a £60m bid for the winger.
Everton have rejected one offer for the 21-year-old but while the Chelsea target Wesley Fofana has been omitted by Leicester amid uncertainty about his future, Lampard is set to pick Gordon at Brentford on Saturday.
Lampard coached Mason Mount at Derby and Chelsea and believes Gordon could follow the same trajectory to become worth even more than he is now.
