Anthony Martial has 'no reason' to leave Manchester United despite Jose Mourinho targeting two wingers

Anthony Martial will not be leaving Manchester United this season according to his agent, despite Jose Mourinho remaining unconvinced by the Frenchman and targeting alternatives in his position.

The Independent reported that the club are open to offers for Martial this summer, despite not actively looking to sell him, with Mourinho believing he is not suited to the wide role and interprets it differently to what the Portuguese does.

Mourinho would prefer Chelsea’s Willian or Internazionale’s Ivan Perisic as they fit his mentality of having hard-working wide-men who support the full-backs defensively, while Martial sees the position more as an inside striker.

However, it is still understood that the player is not officially for sale and his agent has dampened suggestions he will be anywhere other than Old Trafford next season.

“Martial has two years left and there is no reason for him to leave Manchester today,” Philippe Lamboley told Journal du Dimanche.

“If Ed Woodward tells me they want him to leave, things are different.

“But that is not what he told me during our last meeting.”

Martial only managed 18 league starts last season which may be a result of Mourinho and Martial having different interpretations about the wide role.

While it is currently by no means a case of the Portuguese pushing Martial out, since the manager does appreciate his talent, Old Trafford sources say the right offer could persuade the club to sell.
