Mathieu Debuchy to Arsenal: Newcastle full-back undergoes medical ahead of £11 million move - reports
The France international is reportedly closing in on a switch to the Emirates Stadium
Mathieu Debuchy could seal his £11 million move to Arsenal from Newcastle this week after undergoing a medical, according to reports.
It is believed that Debuchy will sign at the Emirates Stadium after undergoing a medical on Monday, according to the Daily Mail, with the 29-year-old cutting short his post-World Cup holiday to finalise his move to Arsenal after France were knocked out of the World Cup.
The Newcastle right-back been linked with the North London club for some time after Bacary Sagna departed for Manchester City on a free transfer, and the French defender allegedly told reporters that he would be joining the Gunners in the current transfer window.
Joel Campbell is wanted by Newcastle and could be used as part of the Debuchy deal
Newcastle are reportedly looking to receive around £11 million for the right-back - twice the amount they paid to sign him from Ligue 1 outfit Lille 18 months ago. However, Arsenal pair Carl Jenkinson and Joel Campbell have been mentioned as possible makeweights in the deal for Debuchy in order to reduce the fee.
Speculation has been rife that Debuchy would leave St James' Park after he favourited a tweet that read: '@Arsenal @MatDebuchy hopefully soon to be unveiled.' He also removed the mention of 'NUFC' that was previously included on his Twitter profile.
Debuchy, who has won 25 caps for his country, was first-choice for France ahead of Sagna under Didier Deschamps.
