It was a far briefer statement...

Raheem Sterling finally completed his move from Liverpool to Manchester City yesterday.

Announcing the news first, Liverpool published a brief 32-word statement on the player. Comparing this to what was written when they announced that Luis Suarez had left the team to join Barcelona for £75m last summer, there are some noticeable differences.

Sterling's move to City was a tempestuous one, the 20-year-old had rejected a £100,000 per week contract with Liverpool towards the end of last season, and missed two days of training last week as he was "ill". Liverpool accepted City's third bid of £49m.

Announcing the Suarez deal, the club's statement read:

"Liverpool Football Club today issued the following statement in relation to the future of Luis Suarez.

Liverpool FC confirms that Luis Suarez will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona. The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities, which will then conclude the transfer.

We would like to thank Luis for his contribution and the role he played in helping bring Champions League football back to Anfield.

Everyone at Liverpool Football Club wishes Luis and his family well for the future."

Sterling's was a briefer affair:

"Liverpool Football Club can confirm Raheem Sterling has completed a transfer to Manchester City.

The 20-year-old departs Anfield after 129 appearances and 23 goals for the Reds.

Liverpool FC wishes Raheem well."

Notice the lack of thanks.
