UFC 300 LIVE: Fight updates and results as Alex Pereira and Max Holloway seal KO wins

UFC 300 featured one of the greatest knockouts of all time on Saturday, as Max Holloway faceplanted Justin Gaethje in the final second of their ‘BMF’ title fight.
Holloway outclassed Gaethje for five rounds before capping off a stunning performance with a mesmerising KO, which left Gaethje out cold, face-first on the canvas.
With that, Hawaiian Holloway took the ‘Baddest Motherf***er’ belt from the American, while the other title fights at UFC 300 saw the champions retain.
In the main event, Alex Pereira knocked out Jamahal Hill in round one to remain champion at 205lbs, after the co-main event saw Zhang Weili outpoint fellow Chinese fighter Yan Xioanan to keep the strawweight gold.

Round one
Hill stands southpaw; Pereira is orthodox. The champion kicks low twice, and Hill responds with one of his own.
Hill tries a cross, but Pereira is out of range. Good lead right hook by Hill. A slower spell ensues, and the crowd gets a bit restless.
Pereira evades a head kick then jabs to the body of Hill. The Brazilian is pressing forward. Hill lands a kick right on Pereira’s cup, and referee Herb Dean steps in to halt the action, but Pereira waves him away.
Seconds later, Pereira sends Hill RIGID with a signature left hook!!! Hill falls back onto the canvas, his eyes rolling back in his head, and Pereira brutalises the challenger with hammer fists, forcing the stoppage!
It’s alllllll over in round one. AND STILL!

Time for the main event! Alex Pereira defends the light-heavyweight title against his predecessor Jamahal Hill.
American Hill won the belt from Glover Teixeira in January 2023 but vacated the title due to injury later in the year. In November, Pereira won the vacant gold by stopping Jiri Prochazka.
That result also saw Pereira become a two-weight UFC champion, following the Brazilian’s middleweight reign.

Round five
Yan survived to the end of round four, and she was then warned by the referee for grabbing the fence repeatedly. One more time, and she’ll be docked a point, he says.
Good head kick by Zhang early in this final round. Zhang is in half-guard, trying to isolate an arm. Now she takes the back and tries for a rear naked choke again.
Good shrimping by Yan to get free, but Zhang ends up in mount.
The champion is able to get to the final buzzer in control. We’ll go to the scorecards.

Yan had some great moments and showed so much heart, but Zhang battled through to extend her second title run.

Round four
What a strange, intriguing fight this has been. We head into the championship rounds.
Another knockdown by Yan! Another perfectly-timed counter shot! She almost gets the better of Zhang in the resultant grappling exchange, but the champion defends well and is able to take the back!
Zhang flattens out her challenger and alternates between punches and working on a rear naked choke.

Round three
OH! A big counter right, and Zhang goes DOWN! She’s throwing up-kicks, she’s lucid, but Yan is battering her legs as well...
This fight is wild. Now Zhang catches Yan hard with a short punch, but the challenger tags her simultaneously! And Yan follows up by taking Zhang down now!
Zhang scrambles and stands, but Yan catches a kick and trips the champion. Lovely stuff.

Round two
We’ll see how much Yan has recovered...
She’s taken down early in this round, and Zhang moves into side control then north-south.
As the grappling exchange continues, Yan gives up the back, and she’s flattened out and eating punches!
Zhang grabs the neck briefly but goes back to throwing unanswered punches! The referee needs to step in here.
He doesn’t, and Zhang goes for an arm triangle after Yan twists face-up.
Somehow Yan is able to escape, and the women stand. The referee still should have stopped the fight during that prior onslaught by Zhang, I’d argue.

Round one
Both women stand orthodox. Zhang misses with a high kick. The crowd is understandably a bit drained after that last fight.
Good calf kick by Zhang, and Yan stumbles. But Yan catches the next kick and drives the champion to the fence.
Zhang gets free, and the women move into space. Yan loads up on a few punches but can’t hit her target. Front kick to the body by Zhang.
OH! Yan with a well-timed left hook, and she drops Zhang! The champion springs back to her feet and presses forward, looking to arrest momentum...
And she does! How quickly things can change! Zhang floors Yan and locks in a rear naked choke, and the challenger barely makes it to the buzzer!
BARELY. Yan is on her feet but stumbling around!
