It remains to be seen whether Snoop Dogg's Rastafarian incarnation is a permanent change, or just one of a series of character-roles, following the George Clinton-influenced DJ Snoopadelic.

Surprisingly entertaining, feature-length treatment of the smash-hit TV series, in which Miley Cyrus plays ordinary high-school student Miley Stewart, transformed by night into rock super-star Hannah.

When Robert Hazard dashed off "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" in 20 minutes in the shower, he never expected what he called this "kind of silly song" to become a worldwide smash for him, or anybody else for that matter.

Choosing a name for a new baby is always tricky. Should it be classical or modern? Safe or a bit zany? One can only wonder how the parents of one unfortunate girl in New Zealand came up with... Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii.

In the announcement of the National Portrait Gallery's forthcoming retrospective of work by the celebrated New York-based portrait photographer Annie Leibovitz, one of the sponsors of the show lets us know how proud he is to be working with Annie (note the personal touch) again. Words such as trust, respect, service are bandied about. These are words that are at odds with what many of us think photographers are up to quite a lot of the time. But surely Leibovitz is not one of these? Surely Leibovitz, photographer of an entire, all-too-well-known world of stars and starlets, is not quite like this?

A mistress of the ambivalent, the American photographer Annie Leibovitz has a talent for catching a cultural mood in her portraits, while exploiting it at the same time. Her photograph of Demi Moore, nude and heavily pregnant, pointed up celebrity exhibitionism, but in an oddly flattering manner. Arnold Schwarzenegger, stripped to the waist astride what looked like a Lipizzaner stallion, managed to be both quasi-fascistic and yet oddly affectionate. Her latest portrait, a controversial semi-nude shot of the 15-year-old star Miley Cyrus, captures that moment of adolescence which is both knowing and yet childishly innocent.

Sitting for Vanity Fair photographer Annie Leibovitz may have seemed like a good idea at the time, but Miley Cyrus, the 15-year-old television superstar who plays Hannah Montana in the popular Disney Channel show of the same name, is now wishing she hadn't.

Before this week, I had no idea who Hannah Montana was. Now I gather she's an American tween singing sensation on her way to becoming a pop billionaire.
Which is nice for her. Hannah is apparently the alter ego of actress-singer Miley Cyrus, who between them rock out to an all-screaming, all-waving sea of pubescent worshippers. What with the dancers, the fireworks and the glittery costumes, it makes the recent U2-concert film look about as lively as a Rotary Club dinner.
