1. Pardew’s dressing-room return not such a happy one

Finally, Newcastle could relax. After serving a three-game stadium ban during which they had been beaten by Fulham and Everton, Alan Pardew would be back in the dressing room to instruct his players before they faced Southampton. “It’s good to be back,” said Pardew, who will not be allowed on the touchline until his side face Arsenal next month. “You have that relationship with players, you have an attachment nobody else can have. Put on top my personality, which we all know is a bit of a winning mentality, and I want to make sure we win.” Newcastle lost 4-0. Four of their fans cycled to Southampton from Tyneside to raise money for cancer research. Some thought Pardew should have been made to join them for the return leg.
