Superclub Space opens its doors today in Ibiza, marking the start of the island's party season. And the chicest place to crash in peace is Los Jardines de Palerm. It's run by design-savvy couple Christophe Brihet and Cristina Schafer, who, over the past five years, have taken a run-down property and lovingly modernised the original 11 rooms and suites, and re-landscaped the grounds.

Located in San José, a sleepy village in the west of the island overlooking San Antonio bay, the former 17th-century finca is a sprawling affair allowing guests total privacy. The exotic grounds have water gardens and three stylish infinity pools. The terraces are dotted with large, white daybeds for sun-lounging and chilling after a session shaking your booty at one of the nightclubs. This is, however, a grown-up clubbers' bolt hole, so expect the international jet set.

It's conveniently situated near the island's best beaches such as Es Cavellet and Salinas, and there are plenty of boho-chic country restaurants within a 10-minute drive, such as Km5 and Trattoria del Sole.

The bedroom

I stayed in mini-suite No 11, which guarantees complete privacy. All rooms and suites are white minimalist havens with funky furniture and simple but stylish bathrooms. There is little in-room entertainment, so you are well advised to bring a laptop and DVDs if you want pictures to look at and an iPod speaker dock is essential if you want to continue the party. Bathrooms are sizeable, stylish concrete wetrooms. Products are organic and simple. Wi-Fi access is available but limited to the reception area and small living spaces.

The food and drink

Breakfast, the only menu, is served in the garden or on the covered terrace. This consists of an endless supply of freshly brewed coffee, orange juice, homemade muesli or cereals of your choice, yoghurts, fruit salad, pastry basket and variously cooked eggs. However, if you decide to laze by one of the beautiful infinity pools during the day, the friendly staff will usually rustle you up a lunch of your choice.

The access

Access to the property is by various stairways from the car park or gravel-covered walkways, so it is unsuitable for wheelchair users. Children are welcome.

The bill

Doubles from £130 per room per night, including breakfast.

The address

Los Jardines de Palerm, Can Pujol d'en Cardona 34, Ibiza (00 34 971 80 03 18; jardinsdepalerm.com).
