All eyes will be on the catwalks this week as the Rosemout Australian Fashion Week opens in Sydney. Australian fashion and swimwear label Zimmermann will open the style-packed schedule of more than 57 collection shows. The event features Australian fashion stalwarts like Alex Perry, Kirrily Johnston, Kate Sylvester, Lisa Ho, Camilla & Marc, Dion Lee and Ellery plus newcomers like Carl Kapp and Yeojin Bae.

Rosemount Australian Fashion Week (RAFW) is the Asia Pacific's premier stop on the international fashion week circuit joining Paris, Milan, New York and London. The five-day official schedule includes on-site collection shows held within state-of-the-art collection showrooms, off-site collection shows, The Gallery and The Presentation Suites at The Westin Sydney. The Rosemount Australian Fashion Week is Australia's most globally-followed fashion event, but the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival is the most popular fashion festival with the locals.

Splendour in the Grass tickets on sale

Australia’s innovatively green Splendour in the Grass at Byron Bay just announced Kanye West and Coldplay as its headliners for the 11th annual event (July 29-31), along with 79 other acts performing on three stages. In both 2009 and 2010, the event sold out in a few hours, and this year the same is expected, with tickets going on sale May 9 at 9 am EST. Tickets range from AUD$401.50 to AUD$525.60 (around €290 to €380). The Splendour festival combines a relatively small capacity (only 15,000 tickets every year, in comparison to the notorious Big Day Out with upwards of 50,000) with a collection of headline acts that come for the festival and stay for the weekend. Other acts included in the lineup are Jane's Addiction, The Hives, The Kills, Cut Copy, James Blake, Thievery Corporation, and DJ Shadow. Tickets are available through Moshtix:

14th Sydney Writers’ Festival

Sydney Writers' Festival is Australia's largest annual celebration of literature and ideas. The week-long event is made up of a combination of free and ticket events in locations stretching from the inner city Sydney to the spectacular Blue Mountains. The event features around 400 Australian and international poets, novelists and authors of literary nonfiction and attracts audiences of around 80,000 every year. Victoria's Melbourne Writers' Festival (August 25 - September 4) has been running as a solo event for longer than the Sydney Writers’ Festival but attracts a smaller audience of around 50,000 visitors.

Vivid Sydney, the largest light and music festival in the Southern Hemisphere, will illuminate Sydney with immersive light installations, projections, flashing sculptures, interactive light art, and music and DJ performances from local and international artists. Highlights include 3D lighting projections across the Sydney Opera House, the largest and most ambitious live fire show ever produced in Australia, and colourful architectural lighting on some of Sydney’s most prominent buildings. Up to 400,000 people are expected to attend the diverse array of free and ticketed events.

The Australian edition of the world's largest digital IT and telecommunications event, CeBIT takes place annually in Sydney, Australia. CeBIT Australia is hailed as the country's largest ICT exhibition (but is only around a 10th of the size of its parent event, CeBIT in Hannover). CeBIT Australia is a focal point of an additional series of events (including AusInnovate NBN, eHealth, eGovernment, Cloud Computing and WebForward) that will run concurrently to the exhibition. More than 600 exhibitors and 30,000 delegates are expected to attend CeBIT Australia in 2011.
