WWV is a leading umbrella organisation for volunteering opportunities abroad. The WWV database will enable potential volunteers to research placements. Peter Sharp, WWV's director, urged potential volunteers to check with the United States embassy (www.usembassy. org.uk) and the Foreign Office (www.fco.gov.uk) on travel conditions.

Pictures of China

The first major exhibition of Chinese photography and video from the past decade opens at the Victoria & Albert museum in London this week until 15 January.

Charted territory

Ordnance Survey has published 11 new OS Explorer maps to show areas which have been opened up to the public under right-to-roam laws.

The maps, priced £7.49, cover west Somerset, Devon and Cornwall and highlight new access areas.
