If it must be love, then - given that 14 February is just round the corner - it must also be late. For a romantic gift that shows thrift as well as flair, consider travelling with your loved one on the late deal offered by Travel the Unknown (traveltheunknown.com), which has reduced the price of its 19-day Monks, Tribes and Rhinos tour of North-east India, departing on 11 March by £200 to £1,900 per person if booked by Valentine's Day. There's the chance to take tea together in Assam, chill out in bamboo huts on Majuli Island and visit the vast Buddhist monastery in Tawang. Flights with Jet Airways from Heathrow, all accommodation, transfers and most meals included.

Alternatively, book by 19 February for Hayes & Jarvis's "two for one" offer in Thailand ( hayesandjarvis.co.uk). The first adult pays £998 for a two-week holiday at the four-star plus Evason Hua Hin and the second adult goes free (which is an extremely romantic price). Departing on 3 May, the package includes 14 nights’ B&B accommodation and Oman Air flights from London Heathrow. Still in Thailand, Travelbag ( travelbag.co.uk) is offering seven nights at beach-side Hua Hin for £659 per person, including B&B accommodation at the five-star Evason Pool Villa and return flights with Jet Airways. Book by 15 February, with departures 20 April-30 June.

Cheap is always cheerful: the BA sale ( ba.com/sale) is still on: three nights at the three-star Monica Isabel Beach Club (room only) in Albufeira in the Algarve is just £139, including return flights from Gatwick to Faro. Alternatively, seven nights in the three-star St Lucian (in, yes, St Lucia) is an impressive £599 per person, including return flights from Gatwick (departures from 20 April to 30 June). If you'd rather go posh, then the BA's Club World sale will be more your thing: three nights in the five-star Fairmont Dubai costs from £1,769 per person, including Club World flights from Heathrow and B&B accommodation. Book by 9 February to take advantage of these offers.

Even smug marrieds need to have fun. Travel City Direct's sale has been extended until 9 February ( travelcitydirect.com). A whopping 14 nights at the Champions World Resort, Kissimmee, Florida on a room only basis is being offered from £439. Price is based on two adults and two children sharing and includes return Virgin Atlantic flights from London Gatwick. Departures from 21 February-9 March 2010.
