Great getaways: Norway winter break, Sunny Christmas in Australia, mountain magic in Austria and beach bliss in Mauritius

Winter's tale

Sunvil Discovery has a wintry weekend in Norway. The four-night break departs on 5 December for Roros, a picturesque hamlet of 17th-century wooden houses, whose roofs are cloaked in snow at this time of year. The package includes SAS flights from Heathrow, transfers and B&B at the Hotel Roros for £857pp. This departure also gets you there in time for the town's annual Christmas fair, with dog-sled and snowmobile excursions bookable as extras (sunvil.co.uk).

Sunny Christmas

Austravel has an option if you're set on spending Christmas in the sun. Depart on 22 December with Cathay Pacific flights from Heathrow via Hong Kong to arrive in Melbourne for 10 nights, with accommodation at the Quality Batmans Hill. Located in the Central Business District, the hotel is within reach of the city's beaches at St Kilda and Brighton. The price is from £2,649pp (austravel.com).

Mountain magic

Just after New Year, Inghams has a week on the snow-sure slopes of Obergurgl in Austria for £489pp. The resort is set against the backdrop of the Hochgurgl Glacier, ensuring good conditions, with a laid-back village setting. Accommodation is at the Haus Gurgl, on a B&B basis, with transfers and Monarch flights from Gatwick to Innsbruck departing 4 January (inghams.co.uk).

Beach bliss

Plan ahead for a spot of luxury next year. If you book before 29 November, Flights Centre is asking £1,299pp for an all-inclusive week at the Tamassa by Lux resort in Mauritius, with Emirates flights from Gatwick via Dubai for travel between 4 February and 4 March (flightcentre.co.uk).
